Betrayal at House on the Hill 3rd Ed.

I performed a complete editorial overhaul of this classic Avalon Hill/Hasbro game, with a focus on repairing criticisms of earlier editions and patching future breakage points. My responsibilities included:

  • Developing style guides to improve accessibility and UX
  • Rulebook editing, layout, and indexing (24 pgs.)
  • Rewriting 50 hero/villain narratives, ensuring consistency between story and rules (120 pgs.)
  • Final file review and sign-off

Cthulhu Wars Onslaught 3

I edited the third edition of this lavishly produced game, which earned more than $1.07M on Kickstarter. It was a massive project, requiring extraordinary attention to detail. My responsibilities included:

  • Editing and ensuring accuracy of a comprehensive, hardcover rulebook (214 pgs.)
  • Ensuring functionality between main game rules and 50 add-on products/rulesets
  • Creative & package copywriting
  • Pre-print quality assurance and final sign-off

I worked on this intricate, multi-layered game for the Netherlands’ Quined Games. My major challenge was ensuring that its multiple systems worked together flawlessly. My responsibilities included:

  • Editing the game’s base and expansion rulebooks (24 pgs.)
  • Identifying and repairing critical design gaps
  • Advising visual artist and graphic designer on page layout and accessibility

Europa Universalis: The Price of Power

Licensed from Paradox Interactive and published by Sweden’s Aegir Games, this is one of BoardGameGeek’s top-10 “heaviest” games. My work involved multiple rounds of revision over two years, including:

  • Editing four rule books, multiple flowcharts, and other game collateral (120 pgs., 700 cards)
  • Organizing information hierarchies for comprehension and easy access
  • Deep-dive systems analysis and repair, including SME/designer interviews
  • Guarding brand voice and maintaining consistency with the computer game IP
